WICKED: THE Soundtrack has become the longest running number one ever on the UK’s Official Compilations Chart.
The record has now been defying gravity as the best selling compilation album for 16 weeks in a row, since it went straight to number once on December 5, 2024.
On its release, it earned a hat-trick of Official Charts records: the biggest streaming debut for a musical soundtrack in UK chart history, the biggest debut week for a musical soundtrack in the 2020s, and the biggest week of vinyl sales for a musical soundtrack in the 21st century.
The 16 weeks beats previous record holders Barbie: The Album and Now That’s What I Call Music 103, which each spent 15 consecutive weeks at the summit.
One of the most-anticipated soundtrack of the year, it was released to coincide with the film’s arrival in theatres.
Wicked: The Soundtrack includes the iconic songs “Defying Gravity,” “Popular,” “Dancing Through Life,” “The Wizard And I” and more like you’ve never heard them before!
With music and lyrics by legendary Grammy and Oscar® winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, Wicked: The Soundtrack includes songs performed by Emmy, Grammy, and Tony winning powerhouse and Oscar® nominee Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda.
Schwartz commented on the soundtrack release, “I am so proud of our Wicked soundtrack.
“These world-class singers and this wonderful full orchestra have given me and my music team the chance to make a recording that I think will excite both fans of the Broadway cast recording and audiences hearing these Wicked songs for the first time.”
